I am presently a teacher for gifted elementary students. I am also the lead teacher for Project Lead the Way. For over 30 years, as a classroom teacher, I have worked to find ways to keep my students global and engaged and provide enrichment in my class. I have continually taken classes, both college and inservice, studying new methods for engagement. My online professional learning network is vast, providing me with up-to-the-minute support and data. I enjoy presenting at conferences and through webinars with BrainPop, Classroom 2.0, and many more. I have been using Responsive Classroom to enhance my collegial model of learning. I received my Master's in Special Education, which taught me to think about each student's learning styles and needs. This has led to an implementation of a Universal Design for Learning environment for my students.

Technology has always been in the forefront of my instruction. I had a website for my classroom long before most teachers in the district had computers in their rooms. I took early programming classes when DOS was still the operating system of choice. I received grant money to purchase extra computers for my room when most of my colleagues were saying they didn't want the two they already had. I was among the first to receive a SMARTBoard in the school and the first to become a SMART Exemplary Educator, a title which certifies me as a SMARTTech trainer for the board. I was also among the first to become part of the Discovery Educator Network. I am now a Leadership Council member of this network, working with others to improve the DEN. In addition, I am a Google Certified Teacher and a cadre member for iEARN NY.

And, now, with 21st century technology, my learning has increased exponentially. I am very aware of the importance of preparing our students for a future we cannot predict or even imagine. I realize that today, teaching means showing children how to think and problem solve, create and learn. I also realize that our students need to be global in order to be successful in the world. The internet is the perfect place for this new teaching to occur. This is why, in my class, technology is incorporated thoroughly, allowing the students to connect with each other and peers around the globe.

This wiki is full of examples of how I use technology both in and out of the classroom. You will find out about my network of teachers from around the world, who are available 24/7 to collaborate with. You will learn about online collaboration tools I use, some created by me, some created by the children, some just contributed to by the children. You will find out what people are saying about me and the Denton Dynamos. You will see grants and awards I've won, articles I've written, and shows I've produced. But, mostly, you will see how important self-direction, globalization and UDL is to me and my students.
