am presently an elementary classrooma teacher who has been working infor gifted elementary students. I am also the fieldlead teacher for Project Lead the Way. For over 25 years. Throughout my career,30 years, as a classroom teacher, I have
Technology has always been in the forefront of my instruction. I had a website for my classroom long before most teachers in the district had computers in their rooms. I took early programming classes when DOS was still the operating system of choice. I received grant money to purchase extra computers for my room when most of my colleagues were saying they didn't want the two they already had. I was among the first to receive a SMARTBoard in the school and the first to become a SMART Exemplary Educator, a title which certifies me as a SMARTTech trainer for the board. I was also among the first to become part of the Discovery Educator Network. I am now a Leadership Council member of this network, working with others to improve the DEN. In addition, I am a Google Certified Teacher and a cadre member for iEARN NY.
And, now, with 21st century technology, my learning has increased exponentially. I am very aware of the importance of preparing our students for a future we cannot predict or even imagine. I realize that today, teaching means showing children how to think and problem solve, create and learn. I also realize that our students need to be global in order to be successful in the world. The internet is the perfect place for this new teaching to occur. This is why, in my class, technology is incorporated thoroughly, allowing the students to connect with each other and peers around the globe.

The single most important instructional tool I use today is my network. I am part of an amazing network of teachers, technology instructors, staff developers, and technology facilitators. I have people in my network who are in the forefront of 21st century learning. I have people in my network from all parts of the world. What this means is that I have someone available 24/7 to answer questions, give me ideas, collaborate with me and/or my class on a project. I have been part of spontaneous learning which occurs each time a new tool comes out. I have been notified of webinars and conferences, of classroom projects and UStream chats. All of this networking has brought me to a new level of teaching and learning in the 21st Century.
Our Global Friendships - This wiki was created to organize the projects run by my group of global collaborators. We meet monthly to discuss new projects, brainstorm ideas, and iron out difficulties.
Global Classroom Project - This organization brings together teachers from around the world to connect, learn, and work. I blog for the project and run monthly twitter chats.
    ...
I interned this summer to learn
Twitter - This microblogging site allows me to communicate with a vast network in 140 character bites. Most of my spontaneous learning opportunities come through twitter.
Classroom 2.0 - This Ning (social network) was my first foray into the social network world. Here I connect with other educators and technology facilitators. I can be part of discussions, become a member of groups of like-minded people and collect network members.
